General Information


The Department of information is acting as a bridge between the people and the Government. In today's information age knowledge is power and information empowers the people both for individual and collective upliftment. Hence information is an essential input of socio- economic development and justice. For development of any kind, there has to be two way communications between the agencies of development and the beneficiaries. Without the availability of information the development may be unreal and implementation may be difficult.

The right to information is an essential part of development and social justice. By exploiting all the available media the department is playing a vital role in keeping the people informed about the developmental plans and progress of the Government. It is also playing a major role in keeping the Government informed about the complaints, comments and grievances of the people, by which it is assisting the Government to arrive at a suitable solution to the issue.

Every district head quarter in the state has one District Information office which is headed by a District Information Officer, ably assisted by information assistant, Audio visual technicians and other necessary office staff with vehicle and equipment. These offices are catering to the publicity requirement of the districts and also provide required information to the local press and people. These offices organize exhibitions, film shows, seminars, song and drama, intensive publicity campaigns etc., by which it spreads the message of various Government schemes and programmes.

These offices also arrange press conference at district level with the ministers and other dignitaries and helps in necessary press publicity, apart from feeding the news to the AIR and Doordharshan through fax and telegrams it also helps the local small news papers by providing National and State news through teleprinter facility.
